Simpsonville is a growing city located in Greenville County, South Carolina. It is home to about 21,000 residents and was the 21st largest city in South Carolina according to the 2016 census. The city is positioned in the Greenville Metropolitan Area and is located about 15 miles south of downtown Greenville, South Carolina.
Simpsonville was developed in the early 1800s. It was originally a stagecoach stop and was referred to as Plain. Eventually, the stop developed into a town and like many southern towns, the community struggled throughout the Civil war and Reconstruction. However, in 1885 lots were laid out to surround a rail line which gave new life to the community. In 1900, the town experienced another turning point when the Woodside Cotton Mill and the installation of a large water main from Greenville were established. These establishments gave new life to Simpsonville which allowed the town to develop and become the beautiful, growing city it is today.
